Every major streaming app offers offline downloads, and every one implements them slightly differently. The difference between a useful offline library and a storage-full warning is understanding three knobs: quality, expiry, and device limits.

Device Limits and SD Cards
Some plans cap simultaneous download devices (commonly 1–4 depending on tier). Old devices logged into the account keep their downloads registered — clean them out of account settings if a new phone claims the limit is hit.
Where supported, external storage matters: several apps let you target an SD card, which makes a 128 GB card a rolling offline library. Internal storage on a budget phone fills with app updates alone; an SD card keeps media isolated.
A Sensible Offline Workflow
1. On home Wi-Fi: batch-download the week's viewing at Standard
2. Verify: open the downloads tab, confirm sizes and expiry dates
3. Before travel: toggle airplane mode and test-play 30 seconds
4. After viewing: delete watched items — stale downloads eat storage silently
What Doesn’t Work
- Downloads are encrypted and app-locked — you can’t copy them to another device or play them elsewhere
